Happy 4th of July!

Tonight’s plans include attending my Mom’s “4th of July Vegan Heaven Cookout” with tons of great friends, and complete with vegan hot dogs and hamburgers, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, and her famous (and patriotic!) fruit pizza!

My Mom’s vegan fruit pizza!

The 4th of July is a great time to reflect on and be grateful for the many freedoms we enjoy here in the USA.

But despite all the freedoms we have, there are billions of animals on factory farms who don’t have any freedoms at all.

  • Dairy cows can’t keep their babies. (Click here for a blog post all about ditching the dairy!)
  • Egg-laying hens can’t spread their wings.
  • Pregnant pigs and veal calves can’t turn around in their crates. (Click here for more on intensive confinement.)
  • None of them can even keep their lives.

So while we enjoy our freedom, let’s take a stand with the billions of “food animals” we share this Earth with, and freely choose not to eat them.

Vegan Chili Dog

A delicious vegan chili dog I ordered at Brown Dog Deli. But this can be made at home!

We don’t need to when there’s so much great vegan food out there!

Why not stop by the store, pick up some vegan hot dogs, and have yourself a cookout?

It couldn’t be easier!

Or, try making any of the delicious recipes from this VegNews article for a perfect 4th!

Vegan spare ribs, BBQ baked beans, rustic macaroni salad, and seasonal berry cobbler all sound great to me!

Now all we need are some fireworks!

To Liberty and Justice for all!

Sarah

P.S. More pets get lost on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. Keep them safe during the fireworks with these tips.
